Matteo Colombo is ISPI Associate Research Fellow in the MENA Programme and Ph.D. Candidate in Political Studies at University of Milan (NASP) with a thesis on the issue of Social Media and Sectarianism in the Arab World. He holds a bachelor degree in Philosophy from the Catholic University of Milan, a Master in International Studies from Oxford Brookes and a Master in Political Science from SOAS, University of London. He also holds a Master Degree in journalism at IULM University in Milan.
He is a professional journalist and writes for several web magazines, including Panorama.it e and Rivista Studio. Before joining ISPI he worked as correspondent from Cairo for TgCom24 during the post-revolutionary transition in Egypt. During this period, he studied modern standard Arabic.
His main interests are in social dynamics, political change, jihadism and the Sectarian discourse in the Middle East.
